Our Team
BlockBuild Systems is built by a cross-functional team with hands-on experience in construction operations, structural systems, and project delivery. We understand the real pain points contractors face: labor shortages, inspection delays, schedule overruns, and cash-flow pressure caused by extended timelines.
Our team’s mission is to turn the structural stage into a predictable milestone. We support projects from pre-construction planning through panel delivery and assembly coordination, helping builders reduce rework risk and streamline inspections. The result is a faster build cycle, stronger cost control, and a clearer path from permit to completion.

Ken Hsieh

Founder & CEO

Ken Hsieh is the founder of BlockBuild Systems and a California-based builder focused on making construction faster and more predictable for general contractors. After years of working around jobsite realities—labor shortages, repeated inspections, schedule overruns, and cash-flow pressure—Ken recognized that many projects struggle not because teams lack skill, but because the structural phase is slow and unpredictable.

That insight led to BlockBuild Systems: a pre-engineered structural building system designed to move complexity into a controlled, repeatable process, helping crews assemble faster, reduce rework risk, and streamline inspections.

Jimmy Bernard

Trade specialst

Jimmy Bernard is a Trade Specialist at BlockBuild Systems, focused on helping contractors execute faster, cleaner structural installs with fewer jobsite surprises. With a hands-on understanding of framing, coordination, and field sequencing, James supports builders from pre-install planning through on-site assembly—making sure crews know what’s coming, what matters most, and how to keep the schedule moving.

He works closely with project teams to align structural panels, MEP rough-in considerations, insulation details, and inspection readiness, so the system goes in smoothly and consistently. James is known for being practical and solutions-driven: he catches issues early, communicates clearly, and helps contractors avoid rework that can cost days—or weeks—on a typical build.

At BlockBuild Systems, James’s mission is simple: support the trades, protect the timeline, and help every project reach “ready for inspection” with confidence.

Project Snapshot

Type: Detached ADU
Size: 1,200 sq ft
Use: Rental income & long-term property value
System: Block Build Systems

The Problem

Contractor Challenges

Building a 1,200 sq ft ADU using traditional stick-built methods typically means:

  • 3–4 months of framing, MEP rough-in, and inspections

  • Multiple inspection stages causing delays and rework

  • Labor shortages driving up costs and uncertainty

  • Heavy on-site coordination in a tight residential backyard

Homeowner Challenges

From the homeowner’s perspective, ADU construction often brings:

  • Long construction periods disrupting daily life

  • Delayed rental income due to schedule overruns

  • Anxiety over appraisal, financing, and long-term value

The Block Build Systems Solution

Block Build Systems restructured the entire construction process.

  • Factory-built structural & wall systems
Key structural components were completed off-site under controlled conditions.

  • Rapid on-site assembly
The main structure and exterior shell were installed in days instead of months.

  • Simplified inspections
Integrated framing, MEP, insulation, and window systems reduced inspection complexity and delays.

  • Reduced on-site labor & risk
Fewer trades, fewer conflicts, and a more predictable schedule.

The Results

  • ⚡ Structural phase completed dramatically faster

  • 🧱 Minimal backyard disruption for the homeowner

  • 💰 Earlier rental readiness and faster ROI

  • ✅ Built to ICC standards and local ADU codes

  • 🏠 Full appraisal value—equivalent to a traditional ADU

Why It Matters

This 1,200 sq ft ADU project in Hacienda Heights shows how Block Build Systems turns ADU construction into a faster, cleaner, and more predictable process—solving real-world pain points for both contractors and homeowners while delivering a permanent, code-compliant structure with long-term value.

COMMERCIAL BUILDING CASE STUDY

From Material Delivery to Full Assembly in 18 Days

Project Overview

  • Project Type: Commercial Building

  • Construction Method: BlockBuild System (Panelized / Pre-Engineered)

  • Scope: Structural shell + integrated wall systems

  • Total On-Site Duration: 18 days

  • Timeline Coverage: Material delivery → assembly → structural completion

This project demonstrates how the BlockBuild System transforms traditional commercial construction timelines by compressing months of on-site work into just 18 days, without compromising structural integrity, inspection compliance, or appraisal value.

The Core Pain Points

🏢 Commercial Project Pain Points

  • Long construction timelines delay tenant occupancy

  • Extended exposure to weather, theft, and site risks

  • Multiple inspections slow down progress

  • Hard to coordinate multiple trades on tight urban sites

💼 Investor Pain Points

  • Delayed Return on Investment (ROI)

  • Carrying costs continue while buildings sit unfinished

  • Uncertainty in schedule = uncertainty in cash flow

  • High risk of budget overruns due to labor volatility

👷 Contractor Pain Points

  • Labor shortages and unpredictable crew availability

  • Scheduling conflicts between framing, MEP, and inspections

  • Rework caused by trade interference

  • Tight margins due to extended site duration

How BlockBuild System Solved It

⚙️ Pre-Engineered, Not On-Site Guesswork

All structural components were designed, engineered, and fabricated off-site, reducing field variables and human error.

🚚 Day 1–3: Material Delivery & Staging

  • Panels delivered in planned sequence

  • Minimal site congestion

  • No long-term material storage on site

🏗 Day 4–15: Rapid Assembly

  • Structural panels installed efficiently

  • Integrated framing, shear wall, insulation, and rough-in pathways

  • Reduced need for multiple specialized crews

✅ Day 16–18: Structural Completion

  • Systemized assembly reduced rework

  • Inspections streamlined due to pre-engineered compliance

  • Site ready for next phase without delay

Before vs After

Key Results

  • ⏱ Up to 70–80% reduction in on-site construction time

  • 💰 Earlier tenant occupancy = faster revenue

  • 📉 Lower labor risk and scheduling exposure

  • 📈 Improved predictability for investors

  • 🤝 Contractors focus on execution, not coordination chaos

Why This Matters for Commercial Development

For commercial buildings, time is money—every day saved shortens the gap between capital deployment and income generation.
The BlockBuild System shifts construction from an unpredictable process into a controlled, repeatable workflow, benefiting owners, investors, and contractors alike.
